The short story: I have been a Grants Pass resident since 1978. My stepfather, Bob Caudill, was the most successful Allstate agent in this region for thirty years. My mother was an Allstate agent for twenty five years, the last six of which I worked for her in the Allstate agency as a licensed agent. She retired in December of 2001. At that point I had several job offers with the many years of insurance experience I had learned in the family business, but a small agency came up for sale. I immediately knew I was prepared to manage this agency. February 1st I was the owner of Grants Pass Insurance, an independent insurance company.
Grants Pass Insurance had been run by a husband wife team in their seventies. Their daughter sat in a back room of the house they rented and did some quotes on line. Most of the quoting took place on the phone, and all endorsements were done by fax. Payments were sent regular mail and the phone system had only two lines.
I immediately moved Grants Pass Insurance into our old Allstate location located in the city limits on the busiest main street. Now we have four workstations networked and on DSL. We currently use the Multico rating system to speed up quote call back time. The phone system was upgraded to four phone lines and we also have voicemail and on hold music. Grants Pass Insurance has had a full page ad in the yellow pages for the last five years. Next year's book really targets the commercial market.
Coming up on our sixth year I'm pleased with the growth that this agency is experiencing and now that we are settled in, it's time to hit it hard. Diversify is the word I like to use and I believe the way to do this is to aggressively go after commercial business and have an appointment with a standard company that allows us to cross sell therefore retaining that preferred clientele.
Sincerely,
Sandra L. Caudill
